Burundian master drummer, composer, arranger and singer Jean Pierre Nimbona, fondly known as Kidum, is a Nairobi-based artist whose infectious tunes have hooked legions of East African fans. In Burundi, Kidum is an icon of hope and reconciliation; in neighboring Rwanda, he is recognized as the 'homeboy.'

Twenty years is significant in any lifetime. In the lifetime of a band, it's phenomenal!

So is soca band krosfyah, which when it began 20 years ago, it's four founding members - Michael Agard, Tony Bailey, Felix Forde and Edwin Yearwood - had the vision for its lifetime. Felix can be credited with the band's name, which signifies integrated music influenced by Caribbean artistes (kros), and 'fyah' because they planned to do it hot!!

Maykel Blanco is one of the most talented young musicians in Cuba today. An excellent percussionist and pianist, he is also a talented composer and producer and at the age of 26 (at the time of this article) he is director of one of the fastest rising bands on the Timba scene: Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor.
